‘LET’S GET READY TO RUMBLE!’ – Boxing Night Initiative

A BIG thank you to all the men who supported the Boxing Night Initiative on 8 April 2013 by buying tickets and inviting friends. We sold the full allocation of 170 tickets, with only a few last-minute drop-outs. There was also full capacity at the bar area of over 50 other friends and family who were associated with the boxers, the gym and the official sponsors. We reckon that of the 220 guests, at least 125 were non believers. This was fantastic!

Mark 16:15 says ‘….Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature’. That night, we were out in the world, engaging with men that would not normally walk into a church, to do just that.

Local boxing champ, Jimmy Roe gave his testimony. And as we asked for in prayer, we had near enough ‘pin drop silence’ to hear Jimmy’s real and honest testimony, how he came to faith through boxing and how the man Jesus Christ had changed his life.
The feedback from the men that attended was that the night went down a storm!

‘I just want to say what a great success the boxing evening was. I brought two men, one unsaved, the other who had been away from the church for many years. They both want to commit to God! We give God the Glory!’

‘I spoke with a man not walking with the Lord that had been invited by a friend. He shared with me that he bumped into two other men (invited by someone else) that he knew who deal drugs. They all said to one another ‘What are you doing here?’ Seems like a comedy moment, but that interaction has stirred questioning.

‘I spoke with a man called Louis who wanted Jesus to come into his heart. He said he would be praying on the way home that would happen. Yesterday was fantastic!

‘What a great night last Friday. I had never been to see live boxing and nor had my son, and it was all so exciting because he knew Jimmy Roe when he was at school in his teens and I think they must have done quite a few naughty things together. Then of course when Jimmy gave his testimony, my son could not believe it and chatted to him for some time. He also knows the girl he has married. So all in all it was a great night out!

We shall have to see if this has any lasting benefits in the way of leading him to Jesus but he is not someone who can be pushed into anything. It will have to come from him.’

Photos will soon be loaded up on our Facebook Page.
